Delightful Daisy 3D Paper Flower Project

Stampin’ Up! (c) – Design by Michelle Mills – UK Independent Demonstrator

IMG_5916

Spring has sprung and it finally feels like summer may just be on its way! I really love to have fresh cut flowers around my home but it appears that this year I have been hit with a really bad case of hay fever so I am relying on wax melts and paper flowers to decorate and perfume my house!

I really do love the daisy punch and matching stamp set so last night I set about making myself a cute little daisy display, I chose to make this one in whisper white and pool party but I’m thinking this would look amazing in really bright and bold colours too.

I added the water beads in the bottom just for effect and to give the daisies different heights.

Hobbies for Happiness

After the devastating events in Manchester this week it feels a bit surreal to be writing about how hobbies can help us achieve happiness, there are people out there suffering and grieving and here I am talking about how crafting can make you happy… I almost didn’t sit down to write this today.. but then I remembered the people I met at the weekend, people who have also been through extreme pain and suffering, some recently others in childhood and they sat and told me their stories of how hobbies helped them.. now please don’t get me wrong, i’m not saying that this is aimed at the people of Manchester, I cannot even start to think what they are going through right now, they have been in my thoughts since the minute I heard the news!

What is Hobbies for Happiness? To really sum it up: a community who care for each other, are there for one and other and who have a common interest.. hobbies. We currently have over 250 members in the Facebook group which is an amazing accomplishment since it only went live a week ago! The members are all of varying ages and backgrounds and are passionate about a whole array of different crafts.

How did you get involved? A little while back the lovely Karleigh of The Mix and Match Planner contacted me, she told me of this wonderful idea that she had and asked if I wanted to be involved from a “sponsor” point of view, this meant that she would feature my business and I would help her to promote the community.

Over the past few weeks we have gotten close and last week she asked me (and some other amazing ladies) to help her admin the group.

Why did you get involved? I never really though of myself as having mental health issues, I have friends who suffer from varying conditions but I never though it was me.. I mean I am a strong and confident woman and live a happy life.. so I can’t possibly suffer from depression.. I am outgoing and sociable… so could never suffer from social anxiety…  I love my children and over came so many obstacles to have them.. so would never suffer from post natal depression!! So I carried on with life.. I left my stomach churn and palms get sweaty every time I had even the chance of having to talk to someone when I wasn’t prepared.. I let myself think that I was a terrible mother for not wanting to get up with my babies in the morning..

Until one day, whilst out with a run with my husband (i’d run ahead and couldn’t find Trevor) I felt the familiar shortness in breath and wheezing spreading from my chest that always accompanied these random asthma attacks (even though I have never suffered from asthma in my life). When I retraced my steps and found him my breath was coming in short gasps and I was wheezing loud enough for passers by to stop and stare. As he always manages to do, Trevor talked me down and I managed to get in control of my breathing again, as we walked back to the car I turned to him and said “I’m going to go to the Drs and ask for an inhaler and get tested for asthma”… I think I will remember his reply for ever “That wasn’t an asthma attack, that was a panic attack.” I honestly had no idea that what I had been suffering was panic, of course looking back now it all makes sense.. but at the time it really didn’t.

I then started researching PND, anxiety and depression and found I ticked the boxes! The past 6 months have been particularly hard but I have worked with my Dr and used both medication and CBT to get myself to where I am today. Ready to take on the world again.

So when Karleigh approached me about HFH I instantly knew that I wanted to get on board any way that I could, not just to help myself but to also bring people together in a community where they are free to be themselves and where there will always be someone who will listen!

How can you get involved? There are many ways to get involved.. you can join the Facebook group, read the blog or apply to become a sponsor!

I am so proud of Karleigh for setting this community up and of how fast it has grown, she really is a lovely person who wants the best for people.

Much Love

1 Sheet Trinket Box : New Stampin’ Up! Delightful Daisy DSP : Teamie Tuesday : Summer

A whole week has gone by since the last teamie tuesday and it definitely feels more summer-esq than it did a week ago so this weeks theme “Summer” feels very fitting.

I decided to make this wee little trinket box which has a multitude of uses, I stumbled on the idea a while ago and have several of them on my desk, holding all types of items from paper clips to die cuts and ink pads. I find them the perfect size to hold embellishments whilst I’m crafting but they can also be used as little gift boxes.

Product Ingredients:

  • Bone Folder – 102300
  • Delightful Daisy DSP (Available June 1st) – 144137

Planner Girls Collective : Scrapbooking Tips : Stampin’ Up! Lift Me Up!

This week for the Planner Girls Collective blog hop we are discussing “Scrapbooking Tips”… now I honestly could write a book on tips and tricks and things I have learnt but that would be how I like to do things and would be MY style!

At the weekend I attended the ScotCon event and we heard the lovely Anna Brim (MrsBrimble) talk about creative journalling. In her speech she spoke of how anyone can creative journal and what we thought the term meant.. most people agreed that creative journalling, art journalling, scrapbooking, pocket scrapbooking and memory planning where all forms of memory keeping and everyone has different styles of each.

She encouraged us to put pen to paper and just to create, to not be afraid of running anything and to believe in yourself, you don’t have to be the best but anything you produce will be yours and if you are not totally happy then you don’t have to show or share it with anyone..

So how does Anna feature with this weeks topic? Well.. every single thing that Anna spoke of about Creative Journalling can be applied to scrapbooking! The whole purpose is to record your memories and you should never be afraid to start.. Journalling cards and pocket page scrapbooking is a really simple place to start, it can be as simple choosing the pre designed cards and slotting them into the pockets along with your photos and journalling.. the most important thing to remember is that it is your album and you can never, ever ruin it!

I love memory keeping!

Easy Traveler’s Notebook planner pocket insert : New Stampin’ Up! Delightful Daisy!

I am a true planner girl at heart but to be honest I don’t really do the decorating on the inside of my pages… I like a bit of wash tape and a couple of stickers but I can’t focus when I have a full page layout.. so I like my planners to be pretty on the outside, with functional decoration!

My a6 Ugly Dori has had the same internal decoration for about 6 weeks now and I really fancied a change.. as I am preparing for a big event this weekend I didn’t have the time to laminate all my dividers and I wanted something that was going to be functional to store receipts.

Planner Girls Collective : Creative Journalling

As much as I wanted to journal today about our recent trip to the Harry Potter Studios I really wanted to get this page in my journal finished too.. My bestie had a baby a couple of weeks ago and I am totally smitten with him.. he is a tiny dot and I swear I feel my uterus do a little dance whenever I see him!! A few hours after he was born Eadie and I were lucky enough to go and visit them in the hospital and that is where we fell head over heels with him!

I used my new LG pocket printer to print the small photo, I love it as it is adhesive paper which makes using it on the go a real delight.
