We thought we’d have a big of a getting to know you post today, you know I like to waffle and there is no topic I love more than talking about myself so grab a coffee we could be here a while… Only joking I’ll keep it short and sweet.
To save you having to listen to my whole life story which is neither as exciting or as adventurous as I would like it to be, I have decided to specifically focus on getting to know the me as I am today and how I came about to be the owner of Ugly Bug Limited.
About 2 years ago my long time Stationey addiction led me to a planner group on Facebook, UK Planner Addicts (UKPA for short) I had just purchased a purple Filofax Domino in personal size and had been looking for inserts, I’d stumbled across the Philofaxy site and couldn’t work out how to print p rap album sized inserts. I joined UKPA to ask if anyone knew how to print the or where to buy new inserts from. It was like someone opened the gates of hell and let out a demon in me, I suddenly couldn’t imagine life without Washi and planner stickers, pens no longer came in a multi pack and each had specific jobs to do. If something wasn’t written in my planner it didn’t get done and the planner community fed my addiction of lists.
If you’ve read any of my previous review posts or know me at all you’ll know my style is very “alternative” and I really struggled to find stickers and accessories which didn’t fall into the “cute, fluffy, whimsical” category. I wanted Superheros, spooks and skulls and I wanted them to be functional.
Trevor, my husband, brought me a cricut electronic die cutter and I started designing and printing my own stickers, I struggled with the cricut and although the soft wear was so simple to use I found it didn’t suit my needs for stickers. So I brough a silhouette cameo secon hand.
It took a few months of posting my own layouts on Instagram (which is something I still love to do) and Facebook before people starts asking me if I sold my stickers. I already had an etsy shop where I sold all my frames and other planner accessories so At the beginning of this year I started listing all my “functional” planner stickers. I gave myself 6 weeks to see how it went and to work on new ideas and it was in this time that I came up with the idea for the monthly planner subscription box (not that I invented the idea, I’m aware there ar already a few on the market, I mean come up with the idea to add it to my shop). I was still unsure of myself and there were a few girls who really helped me along with ideas and inspiration, they are now my design team and some of my closest friends.
I relaunched my shop on the 20th May 2016 and was blown away by the response, people loved the boxes and loved my products, I was a ball of nerves and still am everything I launch something new.
Since owning the purple domino I have changed planners so many times you that I don’t even think I can remember them all, but I currently have my Erin Condren Life Planner which I use as my master planner, a coral Carpe Diem which is my business planner, a red Filofax Pennybridge which I use as my purse, an A5 gold Filofax Saffiano which I am setting up as my Christmas planner, an a5 yellow Kikki k which I mainly use as a prop for pictures to show off new accessories, a happy planner that I use for memory keeping, a MAMBI fitness planner and a few others that I don’t use. It seems excessive but it works for me and I finally have a system that works for me and keeps my home, business and general life organised.
Thanks for reading, I lied when I said it would be short ha. Don’t forget to check out the other ladies taking part in this series.
Peace and love
