Public Service Announcement!!!!

I’ve never been one for making a mounting out of a mole hill (yeah right) so of course this is a massive announcement for a title like that ^^^^^…. well ok maybe not!!

Like a supple snake shedding its scaly skin I am shedding the albatross that has hung around my neck for the past 24 months.. I am finally changing broadband supplier to a provider who will hopefully not fob me off with “technical issues” and will supply me with the product they promise.. I am hoping that this is the end of me having to track downstairs with all my equipment to hard wire into the router every time I want to do more than browse the internet.

Tomorrow is change over day and although I will be filming my Feb Fav’s in the morning the blog and video may not appear online for a day or two.

Hopefully I will be back, faster than ever, on Wednesday!!

xx

Something new…ish!

This is an announcement type post which there will be a few of in the next few days as I have lots of exciting things coming up. I had a little live chat in my Facebook group yesterday and gave a brief outline of what’s coming up.. if you want to watch that video you can join the group and view it HERE!

I’ll number them off so that I remember everything:

  1. You may have noticed from the changes on my blog that I have re-joined Stampin’ Up! as a demonstrator. This is mainly for my own benefit of the discount of products, I have always found that the quality of their products and the versatility is something I struggle to find in the UK, being a demonstrator means that I can order and distribute the products. Aside from you guys being able to order from my online store and join my team, if you wish.. there wont be that much change to my blog in general surrounding this. You have already seen me use their products many times and apart from leaving the links to the products in my posts everything else will remain the same.
  2. For all my scrapbooking ladies, there is an exciting new product coming very soon, a group of us have been brought together to create a hub of information for you guys.. we will be on Instagram, YouTube, Blog and Facebook.. there will be more information on this is the next few days.
  3. As well as Pamper & Plan and the ScotCon events that I am attending this year, we have just arranged to attend “Crafting Under Canvas” in June this year. It is a weekend event and the whole family will be catered for. We will be holding workshops for both papercrafts and Leather work which can be pre-booked.. If you’d like more information please see the Facebook page HERE!
  4. From next month I will be setting up a new monthly workshop, you will be able to pre-order “kits” that will be sent out in advance of the workshop and will be added to a secret group. The challenges will be fully adaptable to whatever paper craft you wish to use them for and there will be prizes at the end. As a trial run the numbers will be limited so I will start taking pre-bookings for this shortly. The price of the kits is likely to be £15 plus shipping but the RRP will be well over this amount. Due to this my planner kits HERE will still be available but there will no longer be the art/creative journaling add on.. this will replace that kit as I’d love to get more involved with you guys when you are using it.

…and that’s a wrap haha, I told you in December that this was going to be a busy year for us.. and that’s not even all yet.. next step WORLD DOMINATION!!

Memory Keeping Process : Woodern Park Adventures

We have a place we love to go, its called the “Woodern Park” well at least that is what we call it. The kids love it because there is so much to do and Mummy loves it because when it goes to “peopley” we can go for a walk down the path that was once a railway track and then up into the woods for adventures. For the video showing this process please see my YouTube channel HERE.
I’ve really been looking forward to documenting this as we had so much fun, at the weekend I took part in a cyber crop hosted by the lovely Emma and Di over at Mind The Scrap, Emma had taken us through a live tutorial on how to make a background that I thought was super cute and knew I wanted to incorporate. I lack background stamps and  wish I’d had a leaf stamp of some kind but I was still super impressed at the finished effect.

So first of all I took a 12×12 piece of white card stock and gesso’d it to make it more resilient.. to be honest i could of skipped this step as the links don’t really penetrate the paper as much as when you are using different media but the texture really added to the overall effect.

With my stays on ink and a random stamp I stamped the image 3 times (without reining in between) once at the top left, once in the middle right and then again in the bottom left, I then took my Stampin’ Up! ink in Mossy Meadow and transferred some of the ink to the lid, I added a bit of water and mixed with a paintbrush and then transferred the watered down ink to a piece of plastic packaging (and all up my arm). Once I had the amount of ink on the plastic I flipped it over and placed it on the first stamped image and used my finger to spread the ink about, I then carried out these same steps on the other 2 groups of stamped images.

Repeating the above steps with Hello Honey and Tangelo Twist (also Stampin’ Up!) gave me 3 colours one each of the 3 groups of 3 stamped images (and who said I dislike odd numbers). Even though I know the sizes of the cards i always measure them a few times just to make sure, my husbands influence “measure twice cut once”.. I cut the 12×12 paper into three 4″ strips, then the top and bottom strips get cut in half to give me four 4×6″ cards. The middle strip gets cut into four giving me the middle row of 4 3×4″ cards. For this layout i’m using a Becky Higgins “Design A” Project Life page protector.

My next step was to back all of my photos onto a piece of 12×12 paper and cut out leaving a small edge of the paper showing, I wanted to leave the white card stock with square corners so decided to leave the photos square and round the edge of the wood effect paper. Because my beautiful daughter has taken and hidden my corner rounder I had to use the corner rounder soon my envelope punch board.

I then used embellishments out of the September Studio Calico scrapbook kit to embellish each card, I love this layout and am very pleased with the way it turned out.

PGC – Budget Planner/Craft ideas

I absolutely love a bargain and when you have hobbies as expensive as arts and crafts money that can be saved is a big plus for me.

Over the years I have made some mistakes with purchases and found that something’s you can get away with buying cheap but others you really do need to invest money to save money, if that even makes sense.

From my personal experience I have found that “consumable supplies” for want of a better description can be brought cheaply, “tools” on the other hand are always worth investing it!

Take paints for example, you can buy cheaper water colour or acrylic paints and use them with middle to top range brushes and get the same effect as more expensive paints: however if you take expensive paints and use them with cheap brushes then I am never really happy with the end result.

Now, I’m not telling you to run out and spend a fortune I just think that if you are going to invest money in art supplies then it’s worth knowing where to invest them (even though I’d sell my left kidney for a Jane Davenport art set).

Silhouette portrait : yes I know it’s not really a bargain purchase, they RRP at around £145 but if you are a crafter or planner then they are worth their weight in gold. The average planner sticker “kit” costs approx £10-£15 a week ready cut and shipped, you can pick up free printable kits from a variety of websites, a simple Google of “free planner printables” brings up an array of websites. With a silhouette you can print these over and over again for the price of a few sheets of sticker paper.

I’ve used my silhouette portrait for paper cuts, ephemera, dashboards, die cuts, alphas and so much more, literally every project has something in it which I’ve used my silhouette for: so although they may not be a cheap purchase I definitely think that overall they are a must have purchase.

Group buy ins : there are several groups on Facebook (mine is here) which offer buy ins. How these work is that wholesalers sell to retailers but we have to put minimum orders in, so rather than order in bulk of one product we have buy in groups that allow people to purchase at wholesale prices, then the rest of the stock we can place up for sale at retail prices. There are buy in groups for literally anything, mine is for planner and paper craft items and we have lots of different brands.

Shops : B&M have really upped their craft game lately, I was in there a few days ago and brought 40 acrylic paints for £6.99, rolls of washi tape for £1.99 and packs of alpha stickers for £1.49. Hobbycraft have their value range which I often use and their “budget” range (artist loft) is my mostly used supplies.

If you are just starting out with crafting or planning the top 5 budget items I recommend is; (assuming you have your planner/art book)

White cardstock, either A4 or 12×12. I use white 12×12 as backgrounds for scrapbooking and use patterned paper for the accents.

Washi tape, can be used for crafts and planning, they can be brought cheaply and last a while.

Punches, can be picked up cheaply and can be used to punch decorative edges in planner or to embellish pages.

Ink pads, can be used for stamping in Planners or craft projects, call also be used with Aqua brushes to create a water colour effect.

Background stamps, these can be picked up dirt cheap and are often free with magazines, they can be used in Planners and art projects and give a texture to your page, layer them with colours to compliment your embellishments to make them pop on the page.

Planning My Week : A6 Traveler’s Notebook, Hobonichi Techno (bullet journal) and Erin Condren

What does a planner obsessed she devil do when she can’t make her mind up in a single planner system??? She uses them all haha.

I love my hobonichi techno (a6) and have carried the bullet journalling system over to her, she sits in my a6 UglyDori and comes everywhere with me as a purse. She sits in my desk and I use her day to day to track my to do lists and appointments, the split column on the page means I can seperate the hourly tasks and to do lists so that I can efficiently manage my time, she’s my task master and haunts me if I fail to complete all my tasks, I have carried over the “migrating” of tasks but been really trying hard to set manageable tasks and allocate time for them.

My ECLP sits open on my desk as kind of a master planner, I like to see the up coming week and be able to plan my time around future events… the reason I plan is that I am an epic fail at time management.. those 100 tasks I need to do are really important.. but YouTube always comes calling and scrolling on Facebook is always more appealing, by seeing the week ahead I find it almost spooks me into doing the task today, fear of a never ending list spooks me.

Multiple planning systems can be hard work and need a few “rules” the main one is schedualing appointments, if I am home they go straight into my ECLP in the monthly section; as that is my “master planner” I always transfer the tasks over to my A6 on a Sunday so rarely miss anything, if I’m out they go in my Hobonichi, the problem I had with that is, even with the best intentions, I found I often (read here always haha) forgot that I had scheduled anything in, due to it being a day on one page (DO1P) if I let it sink into the black obvlivian that is my memory I rarely remember it until I am in that daily page. To combat this I use good old stick notes (say what?? They actually have a function?!?) I either write the appointment on the sticky note only or pop it into the day too. The sticky note then goes on the front page of the Hobonichi and doesn’t come off until I have written it in my ECLP.

It’s my perfect system: for now!! But don’t forget to check back next week and find out my new favourites, the fickle beast I am!!

There is a video coming in the next day or two of me setting the 2 Planners up for this week, alas time disappeared yesterday (YouTube) and I haven’t edited it, feel free to pop over to my YouTube channel. You can now watch the video HERE!

New, custom, A6 traveler’s notebook set up with hobonichi techno

When I started this year I, like every other planner and Stationery geek, went out and purchased the Planners I needed to help me keep my life together.

I knew I wanted a wo2p desk diary, a do1p and then a traveler’s notebook to carry around with me you can see the products I chose in my post HERE.

There I was, cruising along the Planner peace highway when my friend Jayme sends me a hobonichi techno in a6… it was love I’m telling you, if you can love an object haha.

Of course she needed a new home and I’d been asking Trevor to make my Harry Potter themed a6 for ages… this is what he came up with..

At the front I have 2 large secretarial pockets and at the back I have 4 card pockets, this will be my daily carry so will house my cashcards and coupons etc.

Inside I have my 3 dot notebooks and the hobonichi techno at the back. The leather is so soft and floppy it’s stunning. Now I just cannot wait for my next planner kit to arrive so I can pump her out, I purposely left the inside nude so that I can change my colour scheme as often as I like without fear of clashing.

I filmed a flip through of this notebook that explains everything in more detail HERE.

Valentines Day Bucket List!! Art/Creative Journal

Today’s topic for our weekly Planner Girl Collective Post is “Valentines Day Bucket List” I love having buckets lists in my art journal and although we hardly celebrate Valentine’s Day (we both have our birthday between Christmas and Valentines so it’s never been a big elevation for us) we do always make sure we acknowlege it in small ways… we always have a nice meal and some sofa time without social media.

I started by watercolouring straight into my regular size art journal, it’s a chunky beast now and I love it..

I purchased the big stickers in paperchase  on my birthday and the big sheet of stickers I’ve had for ages, they are from the love story range from Lori Whitlock.

The washi is American Crafts that was recently stocked in TK Maxx.

I have the process video on my YouRube channel HERE

Plan My Week : Allthingspaperuk design team stickers

I love a productive day, today this is not only my second blog post but also my second youtube video… go me!! I just had to share this with you and seeing as I have my posts all scheduled for this week I thought i’d share this now.

relax-full-kit

This kit I received as my Design Team package from Sarah at Allthingspaperuk on Etsy, i loved it so much that I wanted to use it as soon as it arrived and I ran straight upstairs to use it in my memory planner, the quality and design of Sarah’s kits are so lush that I never want to use it in my normal planner as once that week is over you never see them again, my memory planner is something that I will keep forever and myself and the kids love looking back through.

There are so many stickers on the sheets (6 in total) and they are printed on a high quality matte sticker paper, with a laser printer I believe, so the quality really is astounding, a pure bargain at £10 a set (remember to use code Michelle15 for 15% off your order).

“Relax” is themed around bath and pamper time and the graphics really are exquisite and scream luxury and pampering, I’m a total spa and champagne girl at heart.

The best thing about the abundance of stickers in this kit is that I can use the functionals in my Erin Condren so I really get 2 layouts from one kit 🙂

Bit of a scrappy girl

…not the kind of rugby scraps that I’m used to, just regular old scrapbooking!! I love it!

When I first got into Project Life I had wanted to go down the scrapbook route but it was all very daunting and the layouts seemed very professional, I brought a tonne of books and then left them on my bookshelf.

This week a friend of mine posted a link for an online scrapbook crop on Facebook and I was intrigued, it cost £5 and I was added to a secret group… alas no secret handshake, yet!!

I had 2 photos, from Trevor’s bodybuilding competition last year, that I hadn’t encoperated into a layout yet but really wanted to get documented… my feet got itchy and as a reward for finishing my exam I allocated myself some scrappy time..

Following a template I’d found on Google I attempted my first 12×12 page:

This is how she came out, for my first ever I was quite impressed 🙂

Although it’s mid February I’ve yet to start this years album as I couldn’t decide what to use, I’ve brought a smaller SN@P album but as soon as I’d done this layout I knew I wanted to stick with the 12×12 so that I can have a mash up of Project Life and scrap pages.

I love that I can be as arty as I want and bring mixed media into the pages, it means I no longer have to decide between art, crafting and documenting our lives.

Project Life Flick Through

I haven’t shared a Project Life post for a while now, I must admit I fell right off the wagon with it in the middle of last year and really struggled to get back into it. I put so much pressure on myself that I ended up feeling overwhelmed with catching up.

For anyone who doesn’t know what Project Life is, it’s a kind of scrapbooking system using page protectors and journalling cards, Project Life is a brand owned by Becky Higgins but there is also Simple Storoes sn@p, pocket pages and probably more that escape my mind right now. The albums and page protectors come in different sizes and I use 12×12.

The album I have is one from Amazon

I use an album per year and this one was from 2016. I start with a title page, this one I made totally from scratch:

Within the album I use a few different styles, some pages are jam packed with pictures and a small amount of journalling, other pages are made up of more journalling cards than anything else.

Each page is called a “layout” and some layouts I use kits so that everything coordinates, the picture above is a back to school layout which I made with a Stampin Up kit.

For picture heavy layouts (like above) I tend to let the journalling cards and the pictures tell the story.

When I’m feeling creative I love to embellish my pages, like above (yes I realise I’ve put off instead of “of” on the bottom left picture). I use a journalling app called Collect to write a bit about what was going on in the photo.

If I have a few pictures all telling the same story then I use the Pic Collage app to create a 4″x6″ picture collage and print it on my canon selphy (as above).

I love creating mini layouts on each card with eachbtelling their own little story, it can be done on actual project life cards (above) and with scrapbook paper which has been cut to size (below).

This year I am going to be more laid back, I’m not going to document each week, instead I am going to use a smaller album and go month by month, just documenting events or pictures as they come up.. I’ve ordered my first batch of pictures and I can’t wait to start!

There is a full flip through on my 2016 album over on my YouTube channel HERE
