I am an old romantic at heart and even though we don’t celebrate valentines day as such I do make sure that I tell my hubby how much I appreciate him and make sure that I make enough time to cook his favourite food or watch a film together.
This art journal page was inspired by our motto which is “We Choose Us” and basically means that whatever happens we will have each others back and be there to support each other no matter what other people or the universe throws at us… something that I like to remind him of when the bill for my craft supplies arrives on the door mat!
I started off by pre gesso’ing the page and allowing that to air dry. I had pulled out 2 of the acrylic paints that I wanted to use: one a pale pink and the other a brighter pink and these are what I based my colour palette on. I pulled out several Gelato’s that compliment each other and the acrylic colours and started by spreading these about the page.
My Tim Holtz tool blended them like a dream and I added bits of colour where I felt I needed them once it was blended together. I used 2 tiny squidges of the acrylic paint on a paint spatula and wiped them around the page to give a texture and some interest to the page.
Grabbing a roll of tape and drawing around it gave me a focal point in which I knew that I wanted my heart and embossing paste to be. I used my heart mask to add the embossing paste and decided that it looked better left white.
The next step was die cutting a heart and using the gesso and acrylic paint to colour it. I used the black around the edges to ensure it popped off the page. After heat embossing the word love and fussy cutting that out I used my Versamark pen to doodle a few hearts and embossed them with the copper powder also.
I then added a few liquid enamel dots to the top right of the page and my saying to the bottom left, this gives the page balance and makes it more visually appealing by having the eye drawn to both the left and right-hand side of the page!
I loved making this page and cannot wait to do a bit more in this journal. I really liked working in my Hobonichi but the pages in this are thicker and can withstand a bit more products that I choose to throw at it!
